Chinese Flower Stand Made From Red Elm - 19thC Origin - Mughal Framed Original Triptych Woodblock PrintThis Chinese flower stand dates from the 19th century and is made from red elm (zelkova), known in China as 'jumu' or 'southern elm.' Red elm as the name suggests has a more red tone and has a more aesthetically pleasant grain. It was considered in China to be superior to its northern elm relative. Red elm is the typical wood used in pieces from Jiangsu province. Most flower stands from Jiangsu were lacquered in a burgundy lacquer. Remains of the
