A National Census Commemorative Medal 1940 consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac black and brown enamels(Kokuseichsa kinen medaru ). Instituted in 1940. In bronze, measuring 30 mm in diameter, very light contact, original ribbon with hook and eye, near extremely fine. Footnote: This National Census Commemorative Medal was conferred in commemoration of the Temporary National Census which began on October 1, 1940. Sources assume that this medal was awarded to census takers and others involved in the process. The Japanese characters on the reverse
